Juan Tomas began his music studies with guitar at the age of 13, and within four years was touring as a lead guitarist with professional bands . Shortly thereafter, he studied flamenco and classical guitar in Spain , which included a Canada Council scholarship to apprentice with "Serranito" Victor Monje in Madrid. He has toured with flamenco dance companies, performed solo recitals of classical and flamenco guitar and recorded for CBC, CFTO and TV Ontario. After completing his undergraduate honours degree in Music B.F. A. York University, and a Bachelor of Education from U of T, he returned to teaching privately, and with the York Region School Board, conducting the North York Guitar Orchestra, and recording his own instrumental compositions. He now performs with the Juan Tomas Show Band , playing guitar, violin, flute, and keyboards, which incorporates many of his talented students.
